With September and October's theme of the circus, I couldn't think of anything more colorful than a Fauvist study! Students used Sta-Flo starch to cover 12"x18" sheets with colored tissue paper. They then cut their scenes out of black construction paper and glued them down. With a simple signature, these assignments were complete!
Here's what our timeline looked like:
Class 1: Learn about Fauvism, and contour line drawings.
Class 2: Create contour line drawings of chosen circus scene on black paper, but don't cut it out! Students put their name on them and put them in their art folder.
Classes 3 and 4: Cover sheets with colored tissue.
Class 5: Cut and glue silhouettes.
Depending on how often you see your students, it may make sense to cover the sheets of paper before doing the contours, but since I only see students once a week, I wanted to give them time to work on their silhouettes between classes if need be.
